Solomon Island Eclectus
Above is a beautiful Solomon Eclectus hen sitting in a box she likes to play in. She is also the mother of the chicks below.
The down at this stage is very dark charcoal gray to black. This chick is 35 days old and is already begining to display cheek, head, slight wing feathers in red. Also noted is a glimpse of blue on the lower part of the wing.
The two chicks in this picture are 34 days & 36 days, the chick closest to the front is begining to show a little more red feathers on the head and wing then the 35 day old chick above. The glimpse of blue is now a little more pronounced too. Since both chicks have red feathers apearing they are both with out a doubt going to be hens. Males would be showing green at this stage of course.
